A very important branch of the HP fandom is hosting their annual fic and art games over at the Remus/Sirius community, and I think we are currently 10 days in, and already spoiled for choice.
These are some fics/art that I've loved, and wish others to love as well - because, honestly, Good Fic is so hard to come by, and we all know how important any form of feedback (except the clearly malicious sort) is crucial for writerly growth.
So -
1. Stop All The Clocks, from Day 4, by Team Canon
This is lovely, because it is written in a manner that is largely episodic, and we get the narrative like small snapshots throughout the lives of the puppies, ending on what reads like hope, but with hindsight, is painfully tragic - the fragments are connected, but yet, the writing is so languid that they seem to float, and it is easy to lose oneself in the prose. I loved this very much, even if the ending made me impossibly sad for hours.
2. Come Home to Me, Weary Traveller, from Day 3, by Team Canon
Gorgeous piece of introspection and narrative, and really, the last line ties everything together and is more than enough to break hearts. I am not much for angst, even if I cannot seem to stop writing it, but this angst is of the delicious sort, because it is written beautifully, and is resolved without ever being resolved. Plus, it is Sirius post-Azkaban, in Grimmauld Place, and frankly, I have a soft spot for fics set in that period, and the puppies falling in love then, after all the damage and heartbreak, is just lovely.
3. Running Red, from Day 7, by Team Canon
I am personally undecided over the use of songs/poems/stories in fics, even if I understand the inclination to use them, and more often than not, succumb to it myself. This piece is a classic study of how to quote and use external sources well and fluidly, and really encourages one to apply it similarly, and to give other fics with such references a proper reading chance ( I admit, I am terribly leery of song fics at times). Completely emotive work, and very lovely imagery.
I'll be honest and say I play for Team AU, and while I've enjoyed many showings by my own team (and can't rec some because I suspect I know the authors and would not be able to review without giving too much away), these few pieces from Team Canon are the ones that stuck. Please do read, and leave feedback for the authors!
